Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille has appointed the COEGA Development Corporation – an independent engineering team to conduct a detailed assessment following the damages caused by the January 2nd Parliamentary fire.

That assessment is set to be completed this week.

Last month, the initial team consisted of structural, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers to assess the damages and the safety of the site.

“There was evidence of severe structural damage to the slabs. The slabs affected by the damage are the second, third, and fourth floors. In addition, there were major cracks in the walls on the second and third floors,” De Lille said.

The professional team advised that the New Assembly Building is unsafe and should be cordoned off and closed to restrict access.
