A memorial was held for 38-year-old Dumisani Joxo who was shot and killed by a City law enforcement officer in Rondebosch.

He was shot in the mouth while officers were dealing with a homeless woman who refused to extinguish an open flame used to cook food.

According eyewitnesses, Joxo was not involved in the altercation and had apparently woken up to go and relieve himself.  

The 22-year-old officer that shot Joxo is out on R 1000 bail.

He faces a charge of murder.

The shooting of the homeless man has raised questioned about the gun training the City’s law enforcement officers receive as well as the municipalities treatment of poor people which has been described as inhumane.
