Fire at Parliament’s Old Assembly building

A fire at the Old Assembly in the Cape Town CBD has been brought under control.

According to the City’s Fire and Rescue Service they were alerted just after 6am this morning to a building on fire at Parliament. The blaze is believed to have started in an office space.

The Fire Service says reports of cracks in some walls of the building have been confirmed.

Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille says they are busy looking at CCTV footage to gather information on what may have caused the fire.

– Plein Street at Roeland
– Commercial and Roeland at Hope Street
– St. John’s Street at Vrede Street
– Commercial at Buitenkant Street
