Traffic authorities are intensifying their crackdown on errant motorists especially drunk drivers as traffic volumes increase ahead of New Year’s.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) says operations have been scaled up in cities, towns and townships to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
It says since the start of this month just over 4000 motorists have been arrested for among others drunken driving, excessive speeding and driving without a licence. Over 2 500 unroadworthy vehicles have been discontinued while another 2 500 have been impounded.
