The lockdowns, retrenchments and decline in business due to Covid-19 has left thousands of families under financial strain, forcing many into debt.

The 2021 South African Reconciliation Barometer shows that 47% of all respondents have been unable to pay debt and that almost half lost most of their income in the past six months.
