The body of a two-year-old Nyanga boy has been found.

Enkosi Nkolisa was reported missing on Sunday night.

Police say that the child was involved in a car crash on the R300 highway.

They’re investigating a case of culpable homicide.

In related news, a 16-year-old has been arrested for being involved in yesterday’s hit-and-run in Vrygrond.

The teenager was allegedly driving the taxi that knocked over a three-year-old child in Trevor Siljeur Road.

Ward councillor Mandy Marr says that the driver appeared to have driven onto the pavement where the child was struck down.

Marr says that the roads in Vrygrond are extremely narrow and has urged people to refrain from drinking and driving.

These deaths come as Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has revealed the interim road fatality statistics for the 2021 festive season.

He says that South Africa has seen an increase in road deaths of 142% since the start of the festive season, as compared to the same period last year.

Minister Mbalula says that 822 people have lost their lives thus far.

He says that the number of deaths from major crashes have also increased from 34 last year, to 111 this year.

For its part, the Western Cape has recorded an increase of 49.3% from 71 fatalities in 2020.

Minister Mbalula says that most crashes occurred during weekends involving minibuses, cars, and trucks.
