The City of Cape Town is looking forward to resurrecting Cape Town’s rail system.
This, as Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced his intentions to introduce reforms to the rail sector, by bringing in third party operators and competition.
Mayoral Committee Member for Transport Rob Quintas says the announcement comes as a relief following the last five years of it appealing to take over passenger rail from PRASA.
Quintas adds that the next step now is to how best secure the lines and prevent illegal land invasions.
The rail agency has been a victim of continuous vandalism that has resulted in the move to road based transport for over 500 000 passengers.
