Massmart workers are well aware of the financial consequences they face by embarking on a national strike.
Spokesperson for the South African Commercial Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) Sithembele Tshwete says its members have approached them making their intentions clear to strike, for the long-term improvement of their working conditions.
This, as Massmart Company responsible for retail stores such as Makro, Game, and Jumbo stores have been found guilty of denying equal worker rights.
Workers are demanding wage increases and an end to mass retrenchments and improved labour practices. Saccawu has urged all consumers to boycott all Massmart-owned stores.
