The Democratic Alliance has been accused of failing the coalition process.
ActionSA, Freedom Front Plus, UDM, and ACDP were responding to DA leader, John Steenhuisen’s announcement that the party would not endorse Herman Mashaba as Johannesburg’s mayor.
Mashaba is a former DA member, who went on to form ActionSA.
The party has done well in its first municipal elections, but still needed the strength of a coalition to head up the Johannesburg City Council.
Just yesterday, the DA, ACDP, Cope, UDM, Freedom Front Plus and ActionSA had announced that coalition deals had been reached, with the latter taking the mayorship of Johannesburg, while the DA would take the Tshwane municipality.
They said that the finer details would be ironed out this weekend.
Now the smaller parties say that the multiparty group had formed to keep the ANC out Johannesburg and Tshwane, however, this plan could be dashed following Steenhuisen’s announcement that the DA would put forward its own mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg.
