An illegal rehab centre in Ruyterwacht has been shut down following allegations of abuse and assault.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk says a 35-year-old man was reported missing by his Elsies River family and was previously admitted to the rehab centre in Louis Botha Street.
Upon further investigation, the missing person’s body was discovered at a mortuary. Another patient claimed that nails were hammered into his feet, and hands tied while sanitizer was sprayed on him and that he was set alight.
A case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been opened. Two suspects aged 15 and 40 have been arrested and will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court.
