Covid-19 regulations affected different parts of the food systems unevenly. This is the conclusion of new research that focused on the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on South Africa’s food system.
The Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies at the University of the Western Cape found that although food was declared an essential service, the reality was that vast sections of the informal sector were closed down under the new rules.
