Western Cape authorities are cracking down on drug trafficking in the province.
In the latest, more than R2 million worth of drugs was confiscated on the N1 highway near Laingsburg.
Traffic officials made the bust when they stopped a suspicious truck. They found 39 000 Mandrax tablets as well as 60kg of dagga. The items were concealed in bags.
Police say the truck was enroute to Cape Town.
The 53-year-old truck driver was arrested and faces a charge of dealing in drugs. He is set to appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ Court today.
Provincial police management has applauded the bust saying they hope it will deter drug peddlers.
