Just over 12.2 million people voted in the local government elections.
This figure is unprecedentedly low, considering the 26.12 million people who registered to vote in this election. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has painted a rather grim picture of the voter turnout. This, as just over 30 percent of votes has been tallied so far.
The commission says it anticipates finalising 90 percent of the vote by the end of the day.
