The Democratic Alliance (DA) must realise that South Africa is a multiparty democracy state.
Angelo Fick, director of research at the Auwal Socio-Economic Research Institute (ASRI) says that the DA needs this reminder, as its rhetoric about voting for smaller political parties shows that it believes that there are only a few choices for South Africa’s voters.
Fick says that people who vote for smaller parties, do so because they believe in their agendas.
He also notes that larger parties are losing out to smaller ones because they do not speak to the grassroots concerns of the public.
Fick has criticised the DA for being disingenuous in telling people that their votes are wasted on a smaller party or independent candidate.
