A family has been left traumatised after a 44-year-old man took his wife and children hostage at an apartment in Millvale Park in Milnerton.

It’s understood the hostage drama started at around 6pm on Monday.

Police say during the course of the night he released his wife and kids but locked himself with a firearm in the apartment.

He finally handed himself over to law enforcement authorities today at around 7pm.

He had fired three shots in his yard. No injuries were reported.

Police say a case of illegal discharging of a firearm in a public place has been registered for investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
