Khayelitsha residents have expressed their frustration at the poor state of the sewage system in Site B.
Locals who staged a shutdown by blocking key roads say the City of Cape Town is neglecting to deal with the crisis.
According to them the problem has been ongoing since February and attempts to engage with the relevant municipal officials have failed.
In the interim the residents are demanding a temporary solution including the deployment of more trucks to unblock the drains. But in the long term they want the City to plan better and add another sewer line to alleviate the pressure on the current pipeline, which they say can’t keep up with the growing population in the area.
