The past voter registration weekend has been hailed by the Independent Electoral Commission as a success.
The IEC based this claim on the high number of youth (in the 16-29 age group) who registered. The make up the majority of new registrations.
However, 13 million South Africans eligible to vote, did not form part of that number by the close of the voters’ roll.
What could have contributed to this failure to participate in the upcoming municipal elections?
