A war over turf and the drug trade between rival gangs in Lentegeur is terrorising the community.

The area’s Community Policing Forum’s chairperson, Byron de Villiers says that the focus has been on yesterday’s murder of two men in Varing Street.

Three others are critical in hospital.

But he contends that not much has been said about the other fatality that occurred at around 5am yesterday.

He says that that incident was also gang related.

De Villiers says that last night’s shooting was in retaliation to the murder of a high-ranking gang member on Wednesday.

The Anti-Gang Unit has since been deployed with some more police officers.

De Villiers says that the community is staying behind closed doors, fearing for their lives.
