Is State Security under the Presidency a Wise Move?

SHARE

President Cyril Ramaphosa has done away with the Intelligence Ministry and placed its responsibilities under the portfolio of the Presidency.

When announcing the changes to his executive, Ramaphosa said this was done to ensure that South Africa’s domestic and foreign intelligence services more effectively enable the president to exercise his responsibility to protect the safety and integrity of the nation.

The newly positioned minister in the presidency is Mondi Gungubele who will oversee this responsibility. Was this a wise decision?
