South Africa has joined 130 other countries in calling for the introduction of a global tax for multinational cooporations such as Facebook and Google.
It follows talks held by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Member states agreed to a plan to set a minimum corporate tax rate and establish a new regime for sharing the taxes imposed on the profits of multinational firms. The rules would curtail tax avoidance by making global enterprises pay tax of at least 15%.
