The coloured identity can never be treated as a homogenous entity.
This cannot be more clear than in a recent paper published by now University of Cape Town PhD candidate Doctor Simone Peters. In her paper titled the “Researching Race, Space and Masculinities in Bishop Lavis: A critical ethnographic study” she shows an alternative narrative showcasing the layers of the coloured community and in particular coloured men.
The study also revealed that coloured men are aware of how negatively they are viewed by other racial groups and that they are instead treated as a whole instead of an individual.
