Police have dismissed social media reports claiming that an Indian man was linked to the recent multiple murders in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili says there were no shooting incidents that occurred in the area recently. Muridili issued a warning to social media users to not share inflammatory messages that sought to incite violence.

In the past week, at least five suspects have been arrested across the country for recording or creating inflammatory messages and sharing them on social media with the intent to incite violence.
