Two more cold fronts are expected to affect the Western Cape this week. They’ll make landfall on Thursday and Saturday. The MEC of local Government, Environmental Affairs and Planning, Anton Bredell says that no major incidents have been reported thus far.
There also remains localised flooding in low-lying areas. Meanwhile, 13 motor vehicle accidents have been reported by the City’s traffic officials, all of which occurred by mid-morning. This as the persistent rain has left several roads flooded including in the Bellville, Ottery, Panorama, Athlone, Plattekloof, and Woodstock areas.
Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith has advised motorists to exercise extreme caution while on the roads during these heavy downpours. This as the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has also urged the public to secure any parts of their homes that may be affected by the strong winds expected to hit the region by tomorrow.
