The Hawks have made a more than R240 million cocaine bust at a container depot in Isipingo in KwaZulu-Natal.
Acting on information that drugs were being smuggled into the country, officers found some 500 kilograms of cocaine in a container that supposedly had animal food. At least 26 canvas bags with Tik Tok and Jaguar brands were found with bricks of cocaine.
The Hawks say their investigation to apprehend the perpetrators is continuing.
The Head of the Hawks Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has praised the team for the bust saying they are closing in on the drug cartels. He has appealed to communities to assist police by not demanding the supply of these substances. Lebeya says this will ultimately help in closing the market.
