Unbundling Eskom Doesn’t Make Economic Sense

SHARE

With load shedding back on the table, Eskom has once again fallen under the spotlight, and not for good reasons. The cash-strapped power utility is in the process of unbundling, however, the process doesn’t come cheap. According to Eskom’s Chief Financial Officer Calib Cassim, it is estimated that the unbundling will cost R500 million. Should this process be finalised, Eskom will be split into three entities that are expected to fast-track the generation space to allow the participation of more Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
