Fifty people have been rescued after being held hostage in a house in Zacharia Park near Lenasia.

The individuals aged 12 and 50 were brought into South Africa under the pretenses of them being reunited with their families.

Upon their arrival, the person who transported them demanded money from their families before releasing them. The rescued individuals are currently waiting to be processed by the Department of Home Affairs.

A 49-year-old suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
