A four-year-old Mitchells Plain boy has had to undergo surgery to remove a bullet that was lodged in his stomach.
The child and his mother were shot and wounded in a drive-by shooting in Langeberg Avenue in Tafelsig on Saturday. A third person was killed in the suspected gang-related attack.
Police say detectives of the Anti-Gang Unit are investigating the crime.
In recent months there has been a surge in gang warfare in several Cape Flats areas including Manenberg, Hanover Park, and Bontehewal. It has left families traumatised as they fear for their lives especially of their children.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says it’s unbelievable to see this and for people having to live amongst this gang warfare everyday. He has promised that they will work with police but also look at what else they can do to bring an end to this, adding that citizens cannot be subjected to this deadly terror.
