Indications are that the Northern Cape has already passed its peak of the Covid-19 third wave.
According to the Health Department’s Deputy Director-General Dr Nicholas Crisp they are hoping that the province doesn’t experience a second minor peak. It comes as the number of reported infections in the country continues to rise as the Delta variant displaces other variants.
In the last 24 hour cycle some 21 000 new cases were identified. There is a positivity rate of more than 28%.
Gauteng continues to account for the majority of new cases standing at 59% followed by the Western Cape with 11% and the North West with 7%.
The higher transmissibility of the Delta variant is being cited as the reason behind the surge in cases.
